About volunteering with VSA 
 
VSA is New Zealand's largest and most experienced volunteering agency working in international development. We provide skilled Kiwi volunteers to support organisations in the Pacific and beyond through capacity building, both in country and virtually.

Our Partner Organisation – The Cook Islands Child Welfare Association (CICWA)
 
The Cook Islands Child Welfare Association (CICWA) is one of the oldest non-profit voluntary organisations in the Cook Islands. They were formed in 1933 by a small group of women who dedicated their time to helping Clinical Nurses throughout community clinics on Rarotonga.

Today, CICWA works closely with the Cook Islands Ministry of Health - Te Marae Ora, and Clinical Public Health Nurses to promote health awareness and to monitor the health care of young children aged 0-4years.

The Assignment 
 
The focus of this assignment is to support the development of Child Welfare as a community service. This is primarily with the Paunu, and the monitoring of children and mothers’ health on Rarotonga and the outer islands.

The volunteer will work alongside the CICWA team to deliver its services with more flexibility, accessibility and knowledge. They will work with the team to improve access and attendance at clinics, and ensure specialist clinical services are evidence based and are meeting the needs of client families.
 
The Volunteer 
 
Are you someone who wants to make a difference, have a sense of adventure and like the challenge of being outside your comfort zone?  VSA Volunteers are technical experts who impart their skills and knowledge to the local community.  You will need to be flexible, adaptable, resourceful, resilient with a passion for Aotearoa and the wider Pacific community. 
 
We're looking for a volunteer with the following qualifications and experience:

• Registered Nurse
• Well-Child OR Pediatric nursing background
• Experience teaching and mentoring others

Ideally this volunteer would also have the following:

• Experience in developing and implementing health education and promotion programmes
• Sound knowledge of health education and communication strategies
• Understanding of public health promotion concepts
• Administrative experience
• Counselling experience
