The International Labour Organization (ILO) was established in 1919, and is devoted to promoting social justice and internationally-recognised human and labour rights.

Today, the ILO helps advance the creation of decent work and economic and working conditions that give working people and business people a stake in lasting peace, prosperity and progress. As part of the Timor-Leste United Nation Country Team, the ILO seeks to support Timor-Leste in realising its national development goals, specifically with regards to transforming the current subsistent agriculture-based rural economy into a vibrant job-rich economy.
