Ba Futuru (For the Future) is a not-for-profit NGO that has just celebrated 15 years of establishment in Timor-Leste. Its vision is to build a culture of peace and non-violence by empowering people with skills and knowledge necessary for a positive future. In order to achive this vision, we work with children, youth, women, victim perpetretors, government staff, community leaders teachers, parents, police, caregivers, and the general public.

Ba Futuru’s projects are innovative and look to create behaviour change through education entertainment strategies as well as offering training workshops in education, life skills, gender based violence, conflict resolution, peace building and economic empowerment. The feedback from the participants has been overwhelmingly positive with some reporting how their experience with Ba Futuru’s training has changed lives “ I thought that the lessons I learnt from the training about avoiding corporal punishment were really worthwhile and I will put them into practice for my students and encourage other teachers to do the same in my school” . Children are a core part of the organisation’s mission with a vibrant pre-school for both local and international students. Ba Futuru also has a dynamic drama programme that tours live theatre performances throughout the districts and produces radio and the entertainment education film programmes that have national reach.
