Honiara City Council (HCC) is a local government unit which administers the 22-square kilometre territory of Honiara capital administrative division. The city is the largest of the country’s sub-national/local governments with a total population of around 65,000 to 100,000. It serves as the administrative, educational and economic centre of Solomon Islands.
The Council is mandated to provide a wide range of services. These include waste collection and street cleaning; maintenance of access routes in the settlements (footpaths and stairs); town planning building and development control; protection of river waters; maintenance and landscaping of cemeteries and parks; development of youth and women; control of public nuisances; health care and education services; vehicle and liquor licensing; and operating markets.
