Volunteer Service Abroad congratulates our partner Empreza Di’ak, who have been awarded the prestigious Sérgio Vieira de Mello Human Rights Award by His Excellency the President of Timor-Leste, Taur Matan Ruak.
Empreza Di’ak works throughout Timor-Leste to alleviate poverty and help vulnerable women. After being founded by Ariana Almeida and Filipe Alfaiate just four years ago, they have increased incomes in remote communities, helped villages support their own small businesses and empowered women escaping domestic violence with vital skills and resources.
VSA is proud to have been working with Empreza Di’ak for the last three years, sending five volunteers to support their programmes, with more joining them next year. CEO Gill Greer says, “Empreza Di’ak is a local NGO that understands how to help its own people make real and lasting change. I’m delighted we have been able to support them do this critical work.”
