Support the development of sustainable tourism in provincial Vanuatu and foster the economic development of the outer islands.
Tourism is one of the most promising economic sectors for Vanuatu’s future development. It provides significant employment opportunities at a range of skill levels and offers a way to foster the development of the outer islands. The tourism sector now accounts for around 40% of the GDP; consequently, the development of sustainable tourism is expected to underpin economic growth and poverty alleviation in Vanuatu.
Local entrepreneurship in the tourism sector is still at a relatively early stage of development. There is a need to provide additional business support and training to small and medium sized enterprises in the sector, particularly in terms of management, marketing and some operational areas such as tour guide services, food preparation and hygiene.
The Business Development Adviser will work towards expanding the capacity of the Department of Tourism to deliver appropriate business training and advisory services and support the production of user-friendly business management brochures. Through the provision of training, advice and coaching, the volunteer will assist to expand the knowledge and skills-base of Ni-Vanuatu tourism operators in order to fully take advantage of the opportunities that tourism provides for Vanuatu.
This is a two year assignment, based in Tanna, and accommodation will be provided by VSA.
