Work with school leaders in rural provinces to improve education standards.
The Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development (MEHRD) is mandated to oversee, lead and develop educational services in the Solomon Islands. MEHRD is responsible for setting education policy strategies and curriculum; writing national examinations; coordinating teacher training to ensure that the number of trained teachers in Solomon Islands meets the growing young population; making salary payments to teachers and other sector staff; and issuing and auditing operational grants to schools and education authorities.
The school leader and teacher training mentor assignments will work alongside school leaders for extended periods (2 to 3 weeks at a time) whilst living on site in rural schools. Living on site will enable the volunteers to provide ongoing mentoring in the areas of school administration and professional development for principals and their teaching staff.
This is a one or two year assignment and accommodation will be provided by the partner organisation.
