VSA Project Friendship in schools

Schools around New Zealand have been taking part in VSA Project Friendship for six years. Over 100 schools took part last year, selling more than 25,000 friendship bracelets. Hillcrest High School topped our list for the most bracelets sold in 2010, raising more than $2,000. Thank you to all schools who took part – your support will go a long way in helping VSA volunteers working on youth-focused projects.

Get your school featured in our October VISTA magazine!

This year, the school that raises the most this year for Project Friendship will be featured in our October VISTA magazine.

The most bracelets ever sold by a School is 1,200 in 2009 by Sacred Heart Girls’ College in Hamilton. Think you can top that?

Please note to be eligible all funds and outstanding bracelets must be returned before 1 October 2012.

Frequently asked questions

What if we don't sell all the bracelets?

Bracelets can be returned to our VSA office in Wellington:

Volunteer Service Abroad
PO Box 12246
Wellington 6144

Can my students manage selling the bracelets themselves?

Project Friendship is easy to run. The sales kit comes with clear instructions and all necessary items to make it easy for students to work with. We recommend one adult gives facilitation and motivation support.

What resources are available for schools?

VSA provides all resources to support students in marketing the campaign, and informing their peers about what VSA is all about. This includes:

  • sales materials and posters
  • a DVD about VSA volunteers to use in assemblies
  • selling tips and messages to reinforce the campaign.

It’s a great opportunity for school children and young people in community groups to think about the roles we can play in the global community and how our actions make a difference.

VSA Project Friendship Challenge

For the first time this year schools had the opportunity to take part in the Project Friendship Challenge, an opportunity for schools to do more to help in addition to selling the friendship bracelets. Schools who signed up had the chance to make VSA their charity for the year, running fundraising activities to support VSA.

Thank you to all schools taking part – we appreciate your support!
