Autonomous Bougainville Government

The Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG) operates under a home-grown Bougainville Constitution following the signing of a Peace Agreement in August 2001. Elected in June 2005, ABG is assuming increasing control over a wide range of powers, functions, personnel and resources as guarantees contained in the Papua New Guinea National Constitution are met.  VSA has volunteers with the Division of Lands and Physical Planning, the Division of Primary Industry, the Human Resource Development Division and the Division of Commerce.

Country Profile

Flag of Bougainville

Separated geographically and culturally from mainland PNG, the region’s 10-year conflict left half the population displaced and communities divided. Today, it is still classified as a post-conflict society. View country
