Asitavi High School first opened in 1960 as St. Mary's Asitavi - a Catholic all-girls boarding school. It was one of the two top schools on Bougainville. It closed for 6 years during the Bougainville crisis and reopened in 1993 as Asitavi High School, a co-educational state boarding school. It caters for students from grade 9 to grade 10 only. The school returned to being an all-girls school in 2008 after the establishment of a boy's school, at Mabiri, some distance south of Asitavi.
Asitavi High School is looking for an experienced Maths teacher to assist local teachers in implementing the Mathematics curriculum in the classroom and run workshops to support the training of local teachers in Bougainville. This is a two-year assignment and basic furnished accommodation will be provided.
