VSA extends sympathy to the people of Tonga

Published on 19th March 2012

VSA notes with sadness the death of the King of Tonga, King George Tupou V.

VSA has a long association with Tonga – our first volunteers went there in 1965; at present we have five volunteers based in Nuku’alofa.

VSA chief executive officer Deborah Snelson says that her thoughts are with the people of Tonga at this sad time.

“I was honoured to attend the King’s birthday celebrations in Tonga a number of years ago. I know that many people in both Tonga and New Zealand will be mourning his loss.”
