Why We Do It

VSA believes that development assistance works best when local people decide their own goals and the type of assistance required to achieve them. VSA provides people, not money - volunteers whose personal and professional skills can be used by communities to bring about positive change.

VSA volunteers have professional experience and qualifications. Our volunteers also have the ability to share their skills and knowledge with local people, and stregthen the capacity of local organisations. They work in many fields - education, health, agriculture, small business development and more.

VSA volunteers have a common aim: to share their skills, experience and energy with the people they work alongside, and with the wider community. In this way, a volunteer's contribution can continue to bring benefits to an organisation long after they have returned to New Zealand.
